El Roi is the sixth track off the album, and second venture into the world of spirituality and the divine. Unlike Shem HaMephorash, which in hebrew means 'the explicit name' (of God), The translation of El Roi from Hebrew is 'the god who sees me,'
The song considers the possibility of an all seeing God observing its creation from a distance, with the benefit of knowing the reason behind everything, and that nothing really matters in the grand scheme of things, or more positively, everything will be ok in the end.
To us humans of course, the end means the end of our personal lives, so it is incredibly precious to us as it is all we have and all we know. We are born into this world not knowing where we have come from or what happens when we die. Through life we are told there was nothing before and there will be nothing after, or that the only way to live on after life is to prove yourself worthy through worship and living a wholesome life.
If that is the case, then it's a pretty unfortunate and bizarre set of random circumstances that brought into being your existence, only for the majority to live a life of hardship to return to nothing at the end, or be judged unworthy because you didn't pass the test.
In Gnosticism there is no test, no sin, no salvation through worshipping external deities, and no seeking validation from external authorities. Everything comes from within. Everything is frequency and knowing oneself is the key to unlocking life's mysteries and being free.
"The Kingdom of Heaven is within you," is what Jesus said trying to set humanity free. The message has become lost over time and twisted to mean it can only be achieved through submission and obedience to religious doctrine.
The song tries to convey a message of hope by believing in one's true self and connection to the divine from within ones own sense of purpose and individuality, in a world that tries to strip it from you.
"keep sight of what you have inside you"
