Blame it on me
Blame it on me is the final track on the album 'Questions for the big answers.' It deals with all the troubles of the world and one persons desire to say 'You can blame it on me' providing it takes all those troubles away and makes the world a better place. The average man/woman in the street, no matter where, just wants to live a happy life, but life gets in the way. The institutions that have dominated societies for millennia dictate that it is a dog eat dog world. Surviv

Calm reflective
Calm reflective is another break up song, but compared to 'The two of us' is much more upbeat and aggressive in nature. It follows the aftermath of the story set in 'The two of us' but is from the female point of view of the lady in question who, in times of calm reflection, realises she's better off out of the relationship. In remembering that these songs were first written in the 1990s when misogyny was more widespread and less acknowledged, it addresses how the lady overco

The two of us
The two of us is track eight on the album 'Questions for the big answers, and is the second song that deals with a love that has been lost and the contemplation that follows a break up. This, however, is based on having witnessed the demise of a relationship as a friend and needing to be be the sounding board for someone who tries to work out what went wrong. The song touches on that person's heightened sensitivity as they try to come to terms with it, noticing every last det

I didn't mean to let you down
I didn't mean to let you down is a fairly straight forward song about someone who realises too late what they've lost and why. Sometimes it's not just one thing, or one big argument that causes a split. It can be an accumulation of things that happen over a period of time that allows a small seed of doubt to creep in and then one day without any reason it's just over. The 'We need to talk' conversation seems to come out of the blue and you're suddenly on the receiving end o

El Roi
El Roi is the sixth track off the album, and second venture into the world of spirituality and the divine. Unlike Shem HaMephorash, which in hebrew means 'the explicit name' (of God), The translation of El Roi from Hebrew is 'the god who sees me,' The song considers the possibility of an all seeing God observing its creation from a distance, with the benefit of knowing the reason behind everything, and that nothing really matters in the grand scheme of things, or more positi

On a day like today
On a day like today is kind of a sequel to Al Pal. Having written about the birth of a first born son as seen through the eyes of a father, it was natural to write a another about the second born child seen through the same eyes. This time, it's a girl. The difference between the two is that having felt the anxiety of being a new parent, there is a lot more confidence about bringing up a second child, so a lot of the worry has dissolved. There is also a feeling that having

One in a million
One in a million was written in the 1990s, in 1996 to be precise. It's a love song that has kind of evolved, starting out as something you recognise in someone that makes you want to be with them, and thirty years later, yes that's right, thirty years later you still recognise that something having spent the best years of your life with them. It was never written with that kind of foresight. It initially was caught up in the moment of meeting someone and feeling the excitem

Al Pal
Al pal is a song about fatherhood, and particularly becoming a father for the first time. It is dedicated to Alex, Phil's son, who was born in 2001. Surrounding the obvious joy, pride and happiness your first child brings, there is also the overwhelming sense of responsibility for how they will turn out and how they will respond to your parenting. Then there are outside influences that you have no control over, such as schooling, peer pressure, political brainwashing and soc

The dream within your eyes
Have you ever been used? Ever been someone's stepping stone, either at work or in a relationship? The realisation that this is all you are to someone cuts deep. It hurts, and you blame yourself for being so stupid. Next time, your guard is up. You watch for the signs. You build up walls so high it's hard for anyone to break them down. You give people enough rope to hang themselves, hoping that one day someone will prove themselves worthy. You've learned to value yourse

Shem HaMephorash
Shem HaMephorash is the first track off our new album and is the premise for its title ‘Questions for the big answers.’ Unless you’re particularly religious Shem HaMephorash may not be a phrase you’ve come cross before, and even if you have it may not be relevant to your faith. It refers to two related but distinct concepts concerning the explicit name of God. In Hebrew it is the four-letter Tetragrammaton YHWH (pronounced Yahweh) meaning the holy name of God in Judaism.

We have lift off !
We are so pleased to announce that our debut album 'Questions for the big answers' has now gone live across all major streaming platforms. Click the links at the bottom of this page and check us out. This has been a long held ambition for Phil since he first started recording songs as a kid in the 80's using tape recorders and basic equipment. Back then the only way to record anything of decent quality was to go into the studio, or get a recording contract. Home recording

Commencing countdown....
As we approach the end of October we're excited about the launch of our album 'Questions for the big answers' which is available to download on this site now, but officially launched on streaming platforms on 1st November. It feels like an age since we set the release date, but the time in between has been put to good use creating and organising the album and track art work. Initially we were going to use the photos taken in Fryston woods but it started to feel like the albu
